Apple Pie Rice Krispies Treats

Chewy and sweet like the classic, these apple pie rice krispies treats also have warm apple pie spices and tons of apple flavor.

I love a good Rice Krispies treat. They are so simple to make and delicious to eat and share. Once I started making different flavors as well it was game on. Don’t get me wrong, the traditional is great but I mean.. an Oreo rice krispies treat? I love combining flavors and creating interesting combinations of things you don’t traditionally see in a dessert window. I think most people have only ever had a traditional rice krispies treat or maybe a chocolate one.

I have some other great varieties but I wanted to create something that felt like classic fall, and for many people that’s apple pie.

Baking Notes & Tips

I make these in an 9×9 pan, however you can use an 8×8 if that’s what you have. Just know the treats will be a little thicker so it might help to cut them a little smaller (or don’t, I don’t judge). If you aren’t using a non-stick pan, use parchment and either butter or baking spray. Even if you are using nonstick I’d still use parchment if you want to take all of them out of the pan at once to cut them. This helps tremendously!

I grabbed the cinnamon apple freeze dried apple slices to make these bars. If you don’t have that as an option, I’d add maybe an additional half teaspoon of cinnamon to regular freeze dried apples. If you can only find dehydrated (which aren’t quite the same) I’d chop them as finely as you can because I don’t think those will grind up into a powder.

Additionally, you COULD brown the butter before adding the marshmallows to add a little extra depth of flavor, but I wanted to keep them simple and let the cinnamon apple the star flavor.

Apple Pie Rice Krispies Treats Key Ingredients

  • Apple – You could probably use fresh apples or dehydrated apple chips but I always find using freeze dried fruit a great way to get the flavor of fruit without any additional moisture or changing texture. Lots of places sell freeze dried fruit and it’s often near snack foods sometimes by granola. I know Target usually has a good selection and I found a cinnamon apple variety there I chose for this (they also had plain apple).
  • Rice Cereal – Whether you buy the name brand or off brand, it doesn’t matter. Just puffed rice cereal!
  • Apple Pie Spice – No need for any special spice blends from the store, the main spice being cinnamon. You can change the other spices for another in the usual suspects of similar spices if you don’t love one but I tried to keep it simple with the ones I chose.
