I love chai spice. I love in lattes, in bakes, if it was in a perfume I’d probably wear it. This book I read last year that the main character smells like cinnamon rolls and I had said that was a life goal. I take it back though, and update it to Chai spice. But I also love Rice Krispies treats, so.. when you have a good chai spice mix you add it to other things and see how it fares. In these? Excellent. Voila, chai spice rice krispies treats.
If you’ve ever made Rice Krispies treats, you know they are super quick and easy. And while these ones do need the stove, it only takes about 5 minutes still.
To make these chai spice rice krispies treats, start by browning the butter to get that extra toasty, caramelly taste. Then we melt the marshmallows, add in the spices, and then boom.. throw the cereal in and done! The hardest part will be waiting for them to cool a little.
I would recommend getting the large 16oz bag of marshmallows. You’ll have a little leftover but who doesn’t need some marshmallows for snacking or cocoa?
Chai Spice Rice Krispies Treats Key Ingredients
- Browned Butter – I love regular rice krispies treats, but once you add browned butter?? I literally cannot stop eating them. This is always an optional step but if there’s one way to add that omg level to a bake, this is it.
- Chai Spice Mix – There probably is a premade spice mix, but this is the blend I use and it’s pretty great. Most of these spices you might already have in your cabinet.
- Vanilla – Such a simple addition that isn’t in a traditional rice krispies treat, but still adds a lot of flavor.
If you’d like other chai bakes you can try:
Ingredients
- 5 tbsp Unsalted butter
- 8 cups Mini marshmallows
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- ¾ tsp Cardamom
- ¼ tsp Ginger
- ¼ tsp Nutmeg
- ⅛ tsp Allspice
- ⅛ tsp Cloves
- pinch Salt
Instructions
- Prep either an 8×8 or 9×9 pan with by greasing or lining with parchment
- Measure out all spices, marshmallows and cereal so they are ready when needed
- Cut your butter into chunks and melt into saucepan on medium to medium high. Let butter brown, which will take about 2-3 minutes.
- When butter smells nutty and is an amber color, add pinch of salt, marshmallows, and vanilla.
- After marshmallows are melted, add in spice mix and stir in completely
- Remove pan from heat, and pour in cereal, mixing thoroughly. I like to add an additional handful of marshmallows at this point to create some extra gooey spots but this is optional.
- After cereal is mixed in, dump mixture into prepped pan and use the wrapper from the butter to press into place.
- Let treats cool for about 20-30 minutes before cutting. Enjoy!
